MOSCOW, December 19. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin says he feels the same sense of pride in the achievements of the Russian people that he does if it were his own family.
"I see it and I rejoice in this (the achievements Russian nationals make in various fields - TASS) as I would have had they been my own family members. This is not an exaggeration - when I see it, I feel as happy as if they were my loved ones. It’s because I see Russia as my family," Putin said at his combined annual press conference and question-and-answer session.
The president noted that Russia was not just about vast territories but also about its people, history, culture and traditions.
"In fact, what’s most important is the people. You know what sometimes occurs to me? Especially recently. I don’t watch TV very often as I don’t have time, and I rarely surf the Internet. Still, when I do, I see reports of the achievements made by our people. Just the other day, a world swimming championship took place. Our guys were there, they looked great. They were the champions. I look at our young men and ladies who achieve success at international competitions. I look at our young scientists with whom I have recently met. I look at them and feel as happy as if they were my family members," Putin said.
