US implicitly gives Israel 'carte blanche' in Gaza operations — Russia's UN envoy

On March 25, all 14 UN Security Council countries, including the United Kingdom, China, Russia and France, voted in favor of the resolution on the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip

UN, March 26. /TASS/. The authorities of Israel have been given free rein to do what they want in the Gaza Strip following tacit approval from the United States, flying in the face of the United Nations Security Council’s (UNSC) recent resolution on a ceasefire, Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said.

"With the implicit blessing of the United States, Israel has now been granted full carte blanche, despite the direct request from the Security Council [on a ceasefire], and it [Israel] is unlikely to stop until it flattens Gaza to the ground," Nebenzya said.

On March 25, all 14 UN Security Council countries, including the United Kingdom, China, Russia and France, voted in favor of the resolution on the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The United States was the only state to abstain.

Tensions flared up in the Middle East after the infiltration of Hamas militants from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory on October 7, 2023, accompanied by the killing of residents of border settlements and the taking over 240 hostages.

The radicals described their attack as a response to the actions of the Israeli authorities against the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. Israel declared a total blockade of Gaza and began to conduct strikes on the sector as well as certain areas of Lebanon and Syria, after which it launched a ground operation in the enclave. Clashes are also taking place in the West Bank of the Jordan River.
