MOSCOW, March 19. /TASS/. Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev is not surprised that the West has once again blamed Moscow for Russia’s alleged deficit of democracy.
"I’m not surprised. Both Washington and London are annoyed that their attempts to create political instability inside Russia have failed," Patrushev said in an interview with the Argumenty i Fakty weekly newspaper.
According to him, the Anglo-Saxons will never accept the true rule of the people and other countries’ independence. "This is why they are outraged by Russian citizens’ desire for freedom and justice," the Russian Security Council secretary noted.
As for Brussels, it has long lost the ability to have an opinion of its own, Patrushev said. European countries are silent even about the blatant terrorist attack on the Nord Stream gas pipelines in their own backyard. Sovereignty and true democracy are now a thing of the past in EU countries, he maintained.
In the meantime, the Westerners are persecuting dissent at home, restricting people’s participation in the political process and seeking to suppress ethnic and religious identities, the Russian Security Council secretary added.
"The West had been backing various forms of Nazism for quite a while, and now, it is promoting neo-Nazism. It is taking advantage of terrorism to achieve its own goals, sponsors anti-constitutional regimes and pursues neo-colonial policies. Yet, the West is still trying to teach other countries about ‘democracy,’ which looks absolutely absurd," Patrushev emphasized.
