MOSCOW, February 26. /TASS/. The West is not slowing up in its efforts to systematically contain Russia, while countries of the Global South and the Global East are showing a willingness to cooperate with Russia on various tracks, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said during the meeting of the MGIMO University supervisory board.
"As we can see on a daily basis, the West is not holding back in its efforts to systematically contain Russia, while countries of the Global South and East, which represent the global majority, not only did not join the anti-Russian sanctions, but also display a readiness to gradually develop cooperation with us in a wide range of areas," he said.
The foreign minister also noted that the airing of the "Games of the Future," which took place in Kazan, "indicates that there are still reasonable actors, even in the West, who are ready to have their actions guided by interests of developing relations between all people […] of our planet and not follow the narrow-minded self-serving course of the people, who, purely by chance, ended up at the helm of corresponding Western governments."
Meanwhile, Lavrov underscored that Russia has never shunned the West.
"The West has turned its back on us, but our country, by its very history, culture, traditions, is always open for fair cooperation with all nations located on the perimeter of our borders, and not only that, but with any other country in the world," the minister added.
