Lavrov offers condolences to top Iranian diplomat following terror attack in Kerman

The sides reiterated mutual commitments to the further coordination of efforts to combat international terrorism

MOSCOW, January 9. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov extended his sincere condolences to his Iranian counterpart, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, over the deadly terror attack in the Iranian city of Kerman, the Russian foreign ministry said after their phone call.

"Lavrov offered his sincere condolences over the tragic death of people who gathered in the Iranian city of Kerman to commemorate the anniversary of General Qasem Soleimani’s death and were killed by terrorists. The sides reiterated mutual commitments to the further coordination of efforts to combat international terrorism," it said.

The ministers also "exchanged views on the Middle East and international problems of mutual interest, including the situation in and around the Gaza Strip, as well as in the Red Sea," the ministry said. "The two top diplomats stressed the importance of ramping up political dialogue and practical cooperation in line with the agreements reached by the two countries’ leaders."

The phone call was initiated by the Iranian side.
