CARTHAGE /Tunisia/, December 21. /TASS/. Washington is trying to bury the idea of creating a Palestinian state, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.
"Russia and Tunisia, as well as members of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in general, are committed to consistent efforts to create conditions for the implementation of related resolutions. However, we get the impression that our Western colleagues aren’t eager to work hard for the creation of a Palestinian state," Lavrov told reporters following a meeting with Tunisian President Kais Saied.
The top Russian diplomat stressed that the United States "has repeatedly vetoed even a simple resolution under decision in the [UN] Security Council, which calls for a ceasefire and humanitarian aid deliveries."
"Attempts are being made to drown out the issue of creating a Palestinian state in various questionable initiatives about convening some conferences, which are based on principles that run counter to those enshrined in UN Security Council resolutions," Lavrov said.
He pointed out that he had thoroughly discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip with the Tunisian president, adding that the two countries agreed on the need to end the violence as soon as possible and create conditions for dealing with the pressing humanitarian situation. "In the long term, there is a need to resolve the issue of creating a Palestinian state once and for all in order to prevent such crises from breaking out again," the Russian foreign minister added.
