MOSCOW, December 17. /TASS/. Wester color revolution scenarios will not work in Russia, despite the West’s aggression against it, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
"Having unleashed a real aggression, which has been snowballing year after year, the Western elites wanted to ruin Russia’s economy and the social sphere. Moreover, they sought to wreck our political system. They though and continue to think that they will be able to sow turmoil in Russia," he said at the 21st congress of the ruling United Russia party.
"Methods of such destabilization are well-known and been used by the Western elites in many world regions more than once during the so-called color revolutions," he said.
"But these scenarios have failed to work and I am convinced will never work in Russia, a free, independent and sovereign state," Putin stressed.
"Our society, all branches of power and government levels have proved their maturity, reliability and stability," he said, adding that Russia has managed to respond to challenges because it "has been steadily, step after step, following the path of strengthening its sovereignty, including in the political and public sphere, in the economy, education, and culture."
"We have been developing federalism, our legislation and firm the constitutional basis. We have been relying on the centuries-long experience of our statehood, on our values and unique traditions of harmonious development of different nations, cultures, languages, and religions," he stressed.
