Kremlin spokesman rules out Putin-Modi meeting in 2023, says it is possible in 2024

According to the 2000 declaration on strategic partnership, the leaders of Russia and India meet annually, but in 2020, due to the pandemic, the summit could not be held

MOSCOW, November 22. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will have no time to hold their traditional annual meeting within the next month and a half, but this opportunity is being examined in 2024, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has told TASS.

"There will certainly be no [meeting] this year. They won’t have the time [to organize it]. There is no opportunity of bringing their schedules together. But this possibility is being examined for the next year," Peskov said, answering to a relevant question.

According to the 2000 declaration on strategic partnership, the leaders of Russia and India meet annually, but in 2020, due to the pandemic, the summit could not be held. Putin paid a visit to New Delhi in December 2021. This year, Putin and Modi met separately during the September 2022 summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Samarkand and held a detailed phone conversation later. This year, they spoke on the phone twice - in June and in August.
