Regional peace impossible without resolving Israeli-Palestinian conflict — Russian envoy

"The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is a key issue and without resolving it, it is impossible to hope for a lasting peace in the Middle East," Vasily Nebenzya said

UNITED NATIONS, November 11. /TASS/. It is impossible to achieve lasting peace in the Middle East without resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said.

"The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is a key issue and without resolving it, it is impossible to hope for a lasting peace in the Middle East. In recent years, we have been stating <...> that shelving the entire international legal framework related to resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict will lead to an escalation and the whole world will have to search for a solution," he pointed out at a UN Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East.

The envoy stressed that resolving the Israeli-Palestinian issue "should in no way involve attempts to drive the Palestinian people from their homeland." A real solution to this "long-standing" issue should be based on international law, Nebenzya stressed.
