MOSCOW, October 25. /TASS/. Moscow continues to maintain a balanced position on the conflict between Palestine and Israel, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
He made the statement in comments on French President Emmanuel Macron's idea to set up a regional coalition to fight terrorism. The president said the coalition could confront Hamas as well.
"We condemn terrorism, terrorist attacks, including terrorist attacks that have targeted Israeli civilians. And we believe that <...> terrorism must be fought in any of its manifestations. But when it’s being done, innocent people should not suffer. They should not be held responsible for terrorism. We maintain our weighted, balanced position," Peskov said.
The situation in the Middle East sharply escalated following an incursion of Hamas militants from the Gaza Strip into Israel on October 7. Hamas regards the attack as a response to Israeli actions against the Al-Aqsa Mosque on Jerusalem's Temple Mount. Israel has declared a complete siege of the Gaza Strip and has started delivering strikes on that area and parts of Lebanon and Syria. Clashes are also taking place in the West Bank.
