MOSCOW, February 15. /TASS/. Foreign media outlets could look into the details of the information that US investigative journalist Seymour Hersh provided about the explosions on the Nord Stream gas pipelines, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday.
"There is only a joyful report that we (the Europeans - TASS) have found a replacement for Russian gas and oil and we are doing well. However, how much do the German economy, the French economy to a lesser extent, and the Austrian economy have to pay for that, given that they have been and remain dependent on oil and gas generation? I urge you perhaps to carry out such probes because no one is banning you from conducting a journalistic investigation. You could probably try to look into what Seymour Hersh said instead of [UN Secretary General Antonio] Guterres," Lavrov said, addressing the bureau chiefs of media outlets accredited in Russia.
On February 8, US investigative journalist Seymour Hersh wrote in an article, citing sources, that US Navy divers, with the assistance of Norwegian specialists, had planted explosive devices under the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines under the cover of the BALTOPS exercise in June 2022. According to Hersh, the decision to conduct the operation was made by US President Joe Biden. White House National Security Council Spokesperson Adrienne Watson said in a comment to TASS that Hersh’s account was utterly false and complete fiction.
