MOSCOW, February 6. /TASS/. Beijing has been pursuing a highly responsible policy and is seeking dialogue in the wake of the Chinese balloon that was downed by the United States over its territory last weekend, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov told reporters on Monday.
Answering a relevant question, he said, "I am confident that our Chinese counterparts have been following a highly responsible policy course and are committed to dialogue and exchange of opinions here, just like on many other issues." How the United States will behave is another question, Ryabkov added.
Last week, authorities in the US discovered a Chinese balloon at an altitude exceeding the norm for commercial flights. It posed no threat to people on the ground. On Saturday, the US Air Force downed what the Pentagon said was a spy balloon collecting vital information in US air space. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken postponed his visit to China over the incident.
