Russia, Kazakhstan seek to prevent armed confrontation in space — declaration

In addition, the parties have agreed to continue coordination when preparing and implementing space programs

MOSCOW, November 28. /TASS/. Russia and Kazakhstan want to prevent a transformation of outer space into a place for armed confrontation, according to a declaration that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed on Monday to mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the countries.

"The Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan are making efforts to prevent an arms race in outer space and the placement of weapons in space and its transformation into a stage of military confrontation, and reaffirm the need to implement further practical measures with a view to developing a multilateral legally binding legal document for the prevention of an arms race in outer space, which would stipulate a ban on the placement of weapons in outer space, as well as on the use of force or the threat of the use of force against space objects or with their help," according to the declaration that was published on the Kremlin’s website.

In addition, the sides have agreed to continue coordination when preparing and implementing space programs, as well as for the use of space technologies in the interests of the two countries, peace and security.
