Moldova’s energy minister calls for revising contract with Gazprom

Victor Parlikov also urged to take into account relations with Transnistria

CHISINAU, February 19. /TASS/. Moldova’s Energy Minister Victor Parlikov has called for revising contracts with Russia’s Gazprom and with the operator of the Moldovan State District Power Plant located in Transnistria.

"They (the contracts - TASS) were signed for a definite period but they need to be revised. However, this issue is not in the competence of the energy ministry only, it is a comprehensive issue. We need to take into account relations with Transnistria. I have certain views and priorities in this sphere, but I cannot dwell on them now," he said in an interview with the Publica television channel.

Energy-related issues were addressed by the ministry of infrastructure and regional development in the Natalia Gavrilita government, which resigned last week. The former minister of infrastructure, Andrei Spinu, took office in July 2021 and in October of the same year he negotiated the extension of the gas contract with Gazprom. After energy tariffs in Moldova hiked by more than seven times in a span of 18 months, the opposition parties placed the responsibility for the energy crisis in the country on Spinu.
