Kursk NPP’s unit 3 goes into automatic shutdown mode — press service

Unit 3 will be connected to the grid after scheduled maintenance is completed

KURSK, November 13. /TASS/. Unit 3 of the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) has been disconnected from the grid automatically, with no threat to the plant’s safety, the press service of the nuclear power plant reported.

"At 10:33 a.m. (Moscow time; 7:33 a.m. GMT), power unit 3 of the Kursk NPP went into automatic shutdown mode. There were no violations of safety conditions. The power unit was unloaded in accordance with the requirements of the technological regulations and operating instructions," the press service said.

Unit 3 will be connected to the grid after scheduled maintenance is completed. Currently, power units 2 and 4 are running in accordance with the schedule. Power unit 1 is working but not producing power now.

The Kursk Nuclear Power Plant is one of the four biggest power plants in Russia and is a major node of the country’s unified energy system. It provides energy to the Center power system, which covers 19 regions of the Central Federal District. The plant consists of four power units with RBMK-1000 reactors.
