BRUSSELS, March 22. /TASS/. Participants in the EU summit did not make practical decisions regarding the proposal of the European Commission to impose prohibitive tariffs for Russian and Belarusian agricultural products, a European source told TASS.
"The European Commission presented its proposal on tariffs, which was noted by EU member-countries. This topic will now be discussed in the EU Council [at the ministers level]," the source said.
The diplomat expressed an opinion that its implementation will take from one or two weeks to several months, depending on positions of the EU member-states. "The EU Council makes decisions on the agricultural policy by a qualified majority of votes and not by consensus, which makes the procedure much simpler," he added.
Final documents of the summit do not mention tariffs on grain from Russia and Belarus.
