State Duma committee supports bill to expand Russian Federation's Arctic Zone

The districts comply with the criteria as per the national strategy for the development of the Arctic Zone and they are similar in terms of geographic and climate features to the Russian Arctic territories, the document reads

MOSCOW, February 19. /TASS/. The State Duma's committee on the Far East and Arctic development supported in the first reading a bill to include the Beloyarsky and the Berezovsky Districts in the Khanty-Mansi Region into the Russian Federation's Arctic Zone.

The Russian government presented the bill to the State Duma on January 19, 2024.

The new conditions will favor the districts' development. The districts comply with the criteria as per the national strategy for the development of the Arctic Zone and they are similar in terms of geographic and climate features to the Russian Arctic territories, reads a document accompanying the bill.

Additionally, the document says, the districts are attractive for investors and developers. The planned number of new jobs there is at least 247, and the districts will attract more than 3.5 billion rubles ($38 million) in private investments.
