Russia’s annual inflation in December 2023 slows to 7.42% — Rosstat

According to statistics, food prices in December rose by 1.49% compared to November and increased by 8.16% in annual terms

MOSCOW, January 12. /TASS/. Annual inflation in Russia in December 2023 slowed down to 7.42% compared to 7.48% in November. In monthly terms, consumer prices increased by 0.73%, according to the data from the Russian State Statistics Service (Rosstat).

According to statistics, food prices in December rose by 1.49% compared to November and increased by 8.16% in annual terms. Prices for non-food items rose in price by 0.42% month-on-month and by 5.96% compared to December 2022. The price of services increased by 0.1% compared to November and by 8.33% in annual terms.

At the same time, inflation in Russia for the period from January 1 to January 9, 2024, reached 0.26%. Previously, inflation in Russia from December 19 to December 25, 2023, was 0.28%

In annual terms, inflation in Russia on January 9, 2024 (according to calculations using average daily data for this and last year on similar dates), amounted to 7.44%.

Food items

An increase in prices in December last year was noted for certain types of fruits and vegetables, including cucumbers - by 40.4%, grapes - by 8.2%, fresh mushrooms - by 7.6%, garlic - by 7%, tomatoes - by 5.5%, cabbage - by 4.8%, beets - by 3.4%, apples - by 3.1%, onions - by 3%, carrots - by 2.8%. At the same time, prices for oranges decreased by 7.2%.

Among other food items, products from poultry increased in price - by 2%, olive oil - by 1.9%, butter, salted herring-by 1.6%, pasta - by 1.5%, sausages, products from fast food catering establishments - by 1.4%, chilled, frozen whole fish - by 1.3%, beef and pork liver, salted, pickled, smoked fish, hard, semi-solid and soft cheeses, canned tomatoes - by 1.2%, smoked sausages, semolina, muffins - by 1.1%.

At the same time, prices for salmon roe fell by 1.2%, milk for children - by 0.9%, oatmeal and barley - by 0.5%, sparkling domestic wine, vodka, black tea - by 0.3%.

Prices for sugar decreased by 3%, chicken meat - by 1.9%, millet - by 1.2%, buckwheat - by 1.1%, oatmeal - by 0. 5%, chilled and frozen cut salmon fish, grape wine - 0.4%, black tea - 0.3%, chewing gum - 0.2%, sunflower oil, cocoa, cereal flakes (breakfast cereals), natural instant coffee - by 0.1%.

Non-food items and medicines

In December, prices for non-vital and essential drugs increased by an average of 1.2%. At the same time, prices for vital and essential drugs increased by an average of 0.9%.

Prices for gas motor fuel fell by 1.1%, for diesel fuel - rose by 0.2%. Prices for motor gasoline generally remained unchanged.

As for electrical goods and computer equipment, prices increased for TVs - by 1.9%, desktop monitors - by 1.2%, vacuum cleaners, landline telephones, ceiling lamps - by 0.8%, electric batteries, energy-saving and electric lighting lamps - by 0.7%, household stoves, LED lamps - by 0.6%, wireless headphones - by 0.5%. At the same time, prices for washing machines decreased by 1.2%, tablet computers - by 0.6%, irons - by 0.3%, mixers, blenders - by 0.2%.
