YAKUTSK, December 8. /TASS/. The Encyclopedia of Yakutia information portal was launched in Yakutia at a meeting of the governor's council on science, higher education and technologies.
The project covers a significant amount of information about Yakutia's past and present. The chronology is from the Paleolithic Period to the present time. The encyclopedia has 22 sections, more than 12,000 articles have been written by academicians and staff of the regional Academy of Sciences and other leading scientific institutions. The topics include history, ethnology, state and law, economics, geography, and geology.
"One of the recent works carried out by the Academy of Sciences is a multi-volume scientific project - the Encyclopedia of Yakutia," the region's Deputy Prime Minister Anatoly Semenov said at the meeting. "The encyclopedia's objective is to preserve and promote Yakutia's cultural heritage, the information about the region, and to develop sciences and education. <…> [It] will become Yakutia's landmark on the Internet."
Work on the project began in 2021. The portal was developed by Yakutia's Academy of Sciences together with the local National Library, and Dit-M, a Russian IT Company. The portal is formed alphabetically from A to Z. Right now, it offers articles of the first volume - from A to C. The contents will be further updated. The portal is available on the official website of Yakutia's National Library.
In 2023, Yakutia's Academy of Sciences marks the 30th anniversary of its formation.
