Share of coal in Russia’s energy balance to fall to 6-7% by 2050 — Novak

Meanwhile, global demand for coal will grow at least in the next 10-20 years following the energy consumption growth, the Russian deputy prime minister said

MOSCOW, November 21. /TASS/. The share of coal generation in Russia’s energy balance with go down from the current 12% to 6-7% by 2050, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said.

"The share of coal in today’s power balance roughly stands at 12%, if we speak about the domestic market, while by 2050 the coal’s share will go down to around 6-7%," he said at the meeting of the Federation Council’s committee on economic policy.

Meanwhile, global demand for coal will grow at least in the next 10-20 years following the energy consumption growth, Novak added, noting that a number of countries lacking sources of power supply will start from coal.
