MOSCOW, November 7. /TASS/. New skiing facilities to be built in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Region's Muravlenko, Novy Urengoy, Noyabrsk and Nadym by 2026 will attract more than 10,000 people to skiing, the regional government's press service told TASS.
"We plan a ski base and stadium with a roller ski track in Muravlenko will be commissioned by the end of December this year, and a modular ski base will be supplied in the fourth quarter of 2024. The construction of a ski base and stadium with a roller ski track in Novy Urengoy will begin before the end of this year, and the approximate due time is 2025. As for the Winter Sports Center in Nadym, a part of the building structures has been delivered here, and the preliminary due time is December, 2023. A ski base with a shooting range in Noyabrsk will be commissioned by the end of 2023," the press service said adding the facilities would potentially attract more than 10,000 people to sports activities.
By 2026, ski bases will be arranged in the Priuralsky and Shuryshkarsky Districts. A biathlon complex in the city of Labytnangi is at the design stage, its construction term is to be advised, the press service added.
Winter sports are most popular on the Yamal. The region has hosted the All-Russian Arctic Games twice - in 2023 the Games were held from March 9 to April 3 in Salekhard and Labytnangi. The All-Russian Arctic Games featured participants from the country's nine Arctic regions, and the local team led the team championships. The region's Governor Dmitry Artyukhov has initiated the Winter Games Festival - the event, held in April, featured athletes from across the region. Since 2004, the Yamal team has represented Russia at the Arctic Winter Games, held among circumpolar countries every two years since 1970.
About new facilities
Muravlenko's ski base and stadium with a roller ski track will take more than 32.4 hectares. The track will be used both in the snowy months and in summer. The complex will offer locations for cycling, running, Nordic walking. The facility will be used for mass sports events, and for national fitness standards competitions.
The ski base and stadium with a roller ski track in Novy Urengoy will be where now is the Kristall ('Crystal') Sports Base in the city's Northern District. On a plot of more than 500,000 square meters will be a two-storey building with changing rooms, coaching rooms, a medical office, a gym, a sauna, a conference room, a cafe and rooms for guests. There will be a stadium with stands for fans and a commentary box. The new facility will be year-round. "Two roller ski trails of almost 4 km will be laid there, plus a three-kilometer Nordic walking trail, and outdoor workout sites, play areas for children," the press service said.
The Winter Sports Center in Nadym will have five snowboard tracks from 150 to 350 m long, a track for jibbing (a snowboard park), slalom, a Big Air jumps track, a snowboard crossing track, tracks for children and beginners. At the top of the large slope, will be a room for coaches and a storage facility.
A new ski base with a pneumatic shooting range will be available in Noyabrsk by the end of the year. Mayor Alexey Romanov earlier said the facility's area would be more than 700 sq. m, including a gym.
Each facility will host about 100 people, the press service said. The region plans to organize regional and inter-regional competitions to make Yamal athletes even more competitive.
Since 2021, nine skiing facilities have been built on the Yamal.
New venues for all-season sports
The region plans to complete in 2023-2024 another six facilities in other sports, the press service added. The Youth Sports Complex in Novy Urengoy, the Nordic Character Martial Arts Center in Noyabrsk, the Nordic Character Wrestling Club in the village of Krasnoselkup (the Krasnoselkupsky District), a martial arts center in the village of Yar-Sale (the Yamalsky District) are due in 2023-2034. Works are due to be completed in 2024 in the Siberian Bears Sports School in Novy Urengoy and in the Nordic Character Martial Arts Center in Gubkinsky.
