MOSCOW, November 4. /TASS/. The global economy's center of power is shifting to the East, Russian Presidential Aide Maxim Oreshkin said on Saturday.
"The global economic power center is shifting. It is shifting to the East, and Russia's economic relations are changing as well. These are not just current events or events from last year, they have happened naturally over the past decade," he explained.
"We were in 12th place in 2000, Russia is now in fifth place in the world in terms of purchasing power parity, according to the World Bank. If you look at the 15 greatest economies, what they looked like in 2000 and how they look like now, it is apparent that Russia has grown very seriously in this ranking over the last 20 years, exceeding several European countries," he noted.
Thus, according to him, France, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Germany were ranked higher than Russia. All of these countries have now fallen behind, with Russia confidently taking fifth spot.
"You can see how Europe's traditional economies are sliding further and further down the rankings. The United States has dropped to second place, giving way to China. India has moved up to third place. Southeast Asia's rising economies are rapidly progressing and occupying increasingly prominent roles," Oreshkin said.
