VILNIUS, October 23. /TASS/. Wines and other alcoholic beverages supplied by Lithuanian businessmen to Russia are re-exported from Europe, Lithuanian Finance Minister Gintare Skaiste said on the air with the LRT radio station.
"These are the products [wine - TASS] of our Western European partners supplied through Lithuania," the minister said.
Mass media reported last week that Lithuania, with minimal quantities of berry and fruit wines produced for the domestic market, has become the leader of exports to Russia. Wines from South Europe are procured in large quantities, repacked in Lithuania, which provides them with the status of origin in Lithuania, and then exported to Russia.
