BEIRUT, May 2. /TASS/. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has warned the radical Palestinian movement Hamas against any actions geared to destabilize the situation in the region
"We warn Hamas against using the Lebanese territory to stages attacks threatening our national security," he said at a meeting of the country’s Supreme Defense Council. "Lebanon must not serve as a platform for undermining stability in the region."
The Lebanese authorities "will not connive at any actions dragging the country into a war," his press service quoted him as saying.
In its statement, the Supreme Defense Council demanded all those involved in launching missiles from Lebanon’s territory be brought to responsibility. It reiterated the government’s demand that all armed groups surrender illegally held weapons.
In April, the Lebanese security services arrested 13 people suspected of launching missiles from the Lebanese territory at the Israeli cities of Metula and Qiryat-Shmona on March 22 and 28. These Hamas activists were detained in Palestinian refugee camps in the country’s southern and northern parts.
Apart from that, the Lebanese army eliminated a base of the Quwwat al-Fajr, an armed wing of the Sunni organization Al-Jamaa al-Islamiya, which is a Hamas and Hezbollah ally.
