WASHINGTON, February 11. /TASS/. The peace settlement of the Ukrainian conflict will become the main topic at the Munich Security Conference, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said.
"Leaders from all over the world go to that conference. But the top of mind for everyone is going to be war in Ukraine, and the president has been very clear. President Trump has been clear that the war in Ukraine needs to end," the US top diplomat noted.
"He’s going to sort of begin to lay out a broad path forward, and he wants that war to end. It’d be in the interest of everybody for that war to end, and so obviously we’ll be discussing that with foreign ministers and other leaders there," Rubio said.
Last week, Axios reported, citing sources, that the US Secretary of State would soon begin his second official trip. In the course of it, he will attend the Munich Security Conference, which is scheduled to start on February 14. Afterwards, Rubio will depart for the Middle East, where he will visit Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. In addition, the sources of the news outlet noted that the US Secretary of State would also visit the West Bank and meet the Palestinian Authority leadership.
The Munich Conference was founded in 1962 by German publisher Ewald von Kleist as a meeting of representatives of defense agencies of NATO member countries. Since 1999, it has been attended by politicians and military officers from Central and Eastern Europe, as well as business representatives. The forum traditionally hosts numerous informal and face-to-face meetings of politicians who discuss new initiatives in the field of security policy. Russia began to take part in the forum in late 1990s. In recent years, Russian officials have not attended the conference. In 2025, the forum will be held from February 14 to 16.
