MOSCOW, November 20. /TASS/. Ukrainian opposition lawmaker Alexander Dubinsky suggested amending the country’s constitution to scrap the post of the president of Ukraine with the goal of removing foreign influence on political decision-making in Kiev.
The lawmaker wrote on Telegram that he saw himself as "the leader of the anti-Soros project in Ukraine," accusing the US billionaire of financing pro-Western and anti-Russian non-governmental institutions in his country.
In his opinion, in order to make Ukraine a truly independent and sovereign country, "all external leverages that brought Ukraine to where it is now need to be demolished." To that end, he suggested "amending the constitution to abolish the post of the president."
He outlined a number of other initiatives as well, including the adoption of the law on foreign agents, similar to the ones currently in force in the European Union and the United States.
"The civil society must be financed from Ukrainian sources and defend Ukrainian interests," the lawmaker said.
Also, Dubinsky suggested abolishing supervisory councils and other similar institutions with the participation of foreign monitors, created in Ukraine at the insistence of its Western partners.
He also believes that law enforcement agencies, created at the West’s initiative also need to be disbanded. Among such bodies, he named the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Financial Investigations Service.
"My goal is remove all agents of foreign influence from my country," he said.
Dubinsky is an independent lawmaker. In 2020, he was subjected to US sanctions for publishing audio recordings that compromised Joe Biden; later, he was excluded from the pro-presidential "Servant of the people" party. In November, he was arrested under charges of high treason and he is currently being held in detention. Previously, he repeatedly underscored that Kiev must start negotiating with Moscow in order to save lives and the future of the country.
