EU agrees on sanctions against more than 30 individuals over Navalny’s death — source

The decision will take effect after being published in the Official Journal of the European Union

BRUSSELS, March 20. /TASS/. EU ambassadors have agreed more sanctions on Russia related to Alexey Navalny’s death, which will target over 30 individuals and two entities, a diplomatic source told TASS.

"The ambassadors have agreed on sanctions against over 30 individuals and two entities responsible for Navalny’s death," he said, adding that the restrictions were expected to enter into force before the end of the week.

The foreign ministers of EU member states will now need to formally approve the move. The decision will finally take effect after being published in the Official Journal of the European Union.

European media outlets reported earlier that Russian penitentiary and judicial officials would be blacklisted. Those on the blacklist are banned from entering the EU and their potential bank accounts in Europe are to be frozen. Besides, European businesses are prohibited to maintain cooperation with the blacklisted entities.
