Ukrainian army chief’s revelations make Western leaders ask questions — media

Earlier, it was reported that the Ukrainian conflict was at a stalemate

LONDON, December 11. /TASS/. Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Valery Zaluzhny’s recent revelations about the situation on the battlefield have made the West wonder if Kiev is now seeking negotiations, the Financial Times writes.

Earlier, Zaluzhny told The Economist that the Ukrainian conflict was at a stalemate.

"Zaluzhny’s candor surprised many Ukrainians, and some western leaders even called Kiev to ask what it meant and whether negotiations were now a priority," the newspaper writes, citing an official.

Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said earlier that Moscow remained ready for negotiations with Kiev. "The [Russian] president has repeatedly said that the priority is to achieve our goals; and we would certainly prefer to do that through political and diplomatic means. This is why we remain ready for talks," he told RTVI.
