Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza needs 6,000 liters of fuel

On Sunday evening, the Gaza government's press office reported that the Israeli army destroyed part of the intensive care unit of the Al-Shifa Hospital

CAIRO, November 13. /TASS/. The director of the Al-Shifa Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip, Muhammed Abu Salima, has asked Israel for at least 6,000 liters of fuel for electric generators, the Al Arabiya TV channel reported.

According to the channel, Abu Salima said that Israel offered the hospital 300 liters of fuel, but this amount is only enough for half an hour. He said that he has requested at least 6,000 liters from Israel and is waiting for a response.

On Sunday evening, the Gaza government's press office reported that the Israeli army destroyed part of the intensive care unit of the Al-Shifa Hospital, hit the top floor of the surgical building, the cardiology department and the maternity ward, and shelled one of the medical facility's oxygen lines, among other things. Two premature babies and six other people died as a result. Later, Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus wrote on X (formerly Twitter) page that tthe Al-Shifa Hospital remains without electricity and water for three days, the inpatient department is not working and the number of deaths among patients has increased significantly.

Tensions flared up again in the Middle East on October 7 when Hamas militants staged a surprise attack on Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip, killing residents of Israeli border settlements and taking hostages, including women, children and the elderly. Hamas described its attack as a response to the aggressive actions of Israeli authorities against the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem’s Old City. Israel has announced a total blockade of the Gaza Strip and has been delivering air strikes on Gaza as well as some parts of Lebanon and Syria. Clashes are also underway in the West Bank.
