China calls on Russia, Ukraine to resume talks without preliminary conditions — diplomat

"No one should seek to derive profit from this conflict at the expense of the Ukrainian people," China’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dai Bing noted

UNITED NATIONS, February 24. /TASS/. China calls on Moscow and Kiev to resume talks without preliminary conditions and on the international community to encourage them for that, China’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dai Bing said on Friday.

"Diplomatic talks are the only way to settle the Ukrainian crisis. The international community must promote peace and talks, waste no time to work on creating favorable conditions for the resumption of talks. It will not be an easy task to make the conflicting parties sit down at the negotiating table but this is the first step on a path to political settlement," he said at a UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine.

"We call on Russia and Ukraine to resume talks without preliminary conditions. Ukraine is not an arena for the fight between big countries. No one should seek to derive profit from this conflict at the expense of the Ukrainian people," he noted.

"The red line must never be crossed. No nuclear war is to be unleashed," the Chinese diplomat stressed. "Due to the risks that the Ukrainian crisis may lead to the escalation of the conflict, big countries are especially responsible for maintaining channels of communication and coordination to spare no effort to prevent a crisis. The international community must stand up against attacks on nuclear plant or other peaceful nuclear facilities.".
