Iranian Foreign Ministry blasts remarks by Blinken, Netanyahu on Tehran's nuclear program

On Monday, Netanyahu said after meeting with Blinken that Israel and the US would ramp up their joint efforts on countering Iran, in order to prevent the country from obtaining nuclear weapons

TEHRAN, January 31. /TASS/. Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani criticized the remarks made by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the Iranian nuclear program.

"US secretary of state [Antony Blinken], whose country was the first in the world to use the A-bomb and PM of the phony Zionist regime, with a horrible nuclear arsenal, stand together warning of Iran’s nuclearization (an NPT member & committed to it). Ridiculous but true; criminals & outlaws flagbearers of int'l security!" Kanaani tweeted.

On Monday, Netanyahu said after meeting with Blinken that Israel and the US would ramp up their joint efforts on countering Iran, in order to prevent the country from obtaining nuclear weapons.

In 2015, the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany signed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), also known as the "Iran Nuclear Deal," with Tehran, which was supposed to help address the crisis around Iranian nuclear developments. Former US President Donald Trump decided to withdraw from this agreement. The current US leader Joe Biden has repeatedly signaled the readiness to bring Washington back into the nuclear deal.

Since April 2021, Russia, the UK, Germany, China, the US and France have been negotiating with Iran on the restoration of the JCPOA in its original form. On November 10, 2022, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said that talks with Iranian representatives in Vienna ended without any result.
