Serious European conflict may acquire planetary scope, cautions Lukashenko

The current situation with military operations in Ukraine resulted from the West’s reckless policy, the Belarusian leader emphasized

MINSK, March 1. /TASS/. The unfolding serious European conflict may acquire planetary dimensions, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said at an enlarged meeting of the country’s Security Council on Tuesday.

"Let us hope that it [the serious European conflict] does not grow into a planetary conflict. It began not even in 2014. At that time, it entered an acute armed phase. But what did precede it?" the BelTA news agency quoted the Belarusian leader as saying.

The current situation with military operations in Ukraine resulted from the West’s reckless policy, Lukashenko emphasized.

"Regrettably, the current situation has been a direct consequence of the West’s reckless policy aimed at pushing through its interests to the detriment of the security of others," the Belarusian leader insisted.

Even before the hostilities commenced, Minsk offered "Ukrainian colleagues to establish a direct contact with the Russian side," Lukashenko said.

"We were ready to render required assistance in this matter. However, our offer was ignored," the Belarusian president said.
