MOSCOW, November 29. /TASS/. Russia’s Lilia Morozova was re-elected president of the International Federation of Aesthetic Group Gymnastics (IFAGG) securing votes from representatives of 40 national federations, she told TASS on Wednesday.
The election took place at the IFAGG General Assembly on November 27 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The other candidate for the post of the IFAGG president was Georgios Vaiopoulos of Greece. National federations as well as national clubs had the right to vote in the presidential election.
The Russian was re-elected to another four-year term, receiving 110 votes in her favor, while her Greek opponent received 25 votes.
"Aesthetic Group Gymnastics is non-Olympic sport, our federation is independent," Morozova said in an interview with TASS. "IFAGG is not affiliated with the International Gymnastics Federation [FIG] and has no connection with the International Olympic Committee [IOC]."
"I work in the International Federation of Aesthetic Group Gymnastics since 2003, when it was founded," she continued. "In the course of 20 years I have established good professional and friendly relations with my colleagues from other countries."
"I have served as the federation’s vice president for six years and as the president for two years and on Monday I received support of my colleagues from 40 countries and very grateful to them for this. Probably some personal and professional qualities helped me, despite all difficulties regarding the complicated political situation," Morozova noted.
According to her, the International Federation of Aesthetic Group Gymnastics lists member organizations from 48 countries.
"I have been supported by all Asian federations and the majority of European, except for the Scandinavian federations, which opted to take a neutral stance," she added.
According to the IFAGG official website, "The sport of Aesthetic Group Gymnastics (AGG) is based on stylized, natural total body movement. The sport involves harmonious, rhythmic, and dynamic movements performed with natural use of strength."
The composition must contain versatile and varied body movements, such as body waves and swings, balances and pivots, jumps and leaps, dance steps, and lifts. Physical qualities such as flexibility, speed, strength, coordination, and the ability to move effortlessly are required. A competitive group consists of six to 10 gymnasts.
