BERLIN, March 19. /TASS/. Most Germans are not ready to fight in case of a direct attack on Germany, says the poll by Focus-online.
The question was formulated as follows: "Let’s presume Germany was attacked militarily. Would you actively participate to protect [the country]?"
Only 32% of respondents said they are ready to take up arms. Meanwhile, 57% rejected such option, while 11% were undecided.
The poll also revealed that only 23% of respondents are ready to take up arms in Eastern regions of Germany (69% are not), while in the West, 35% of respondents are ready to fight (versus 54%).
The poll covered about 5,000 people.
