Fewer young people willing to emigrate from Russia over past two years — poll

According to Valery Fedorov, this may be explained by the fact that young people do not find the world abroad "as welcoming, friendly, comfortable and safe as it used to be"

MOSCOW, March 13. /TASS/. The number of young Russians who are willing to move to another country has fallen over the past two years, Director General of the All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM) Valery Fedorov said.

"We regularly monitor emigration sentiments. In the youngest age group, 18% would seek to move abroad and in the older age group, the number is 15%. The figures are not high, as they are usually higher. In the past two years, the emigration sentiments have not grown, but on the contrary, they have dropped," he said during a lecture at the Znanie.Lectorium venue as part of the Russia EXPO educational program.

According to Fedorov, this may be explained by the fact that young people do not find the world abroad "as welcoming, friendly, comfortable and safe as it used to be."

"Nowadays, foreign countries are rather perceived with apprehension and caution as a risky and challenging place to live in. Of course, there are those who still want to leave. There are neither many nor few of them," he added.

The EXPO Russia international exhibition and forum has been held at the VDNKh exhibition center in Moscow since November 4, 2023. Its mission is to showcase key national achievements in various sectors of the economy, with all 89 Russian regions presenting their exhibitions. TASS is serving as the forum’s general information agency.
