FSB cracks down on Hizb ut-Tahrir cell in Crimea — service

MOSCOW, March 6. /TASS/. Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has foiled the activity of a cell of the Hizb ut-Tahrir international terrorist organization (banned in Russia) in Crimea, the FSB Public Relations Center told TASS.

"The Federal Security Service in the Republic of Crimea has foiled the activities of a secret cell of the international terrorist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami (outlawed in Russia by the ruling of the Supreme Court in 2003). It was established that members of the terrorist group were carrying out anti-constitution activities based on the doctrine of creation of a so-called world caliphate, the destruction of secular institutions and aimed at toppling the incumbent government by force," the FSB said.

According to the FSB, during their meetings, using secrecy measures, "they propagated terrorist ideology among the peninsula’s residents and recruited Crimean Muslims into their ranks."

Searches were conducted in homes of the members of the terrorist organization. A large number of propaganda materials of Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami banned in Russia, communications devices and electronic media, which were used for terrorist activities, were confiscated. Apart from that, a big amount of money in Russian and foreign currencies were also found.

The FSB Investigation Department for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol initiated criminal proceedings.
