NEW DELHI, December 22. /TASS/. Several hundred Russian children living in India attended a New Year's performance at the Russian House in New Delhi.
The fairy tale The New Year Adventures of a Snowman created the atmosphere of the traditional Russian New Year despite the absence of snow and frost.
The theatricalized fairy tale, staged by the Russian Embassy in India, Russian nationals, employees and pupils of the Russian House, told young spectators about the victory of good over evil, about friendship and understanding, about the magic of the New Year. Indian families who visited the holiday were able to learn more about the Russian New Year traditions.
"The Embassy attaches special importance to this holiday because we have many mixed families living here. Russian mothers try to pass on all our traditions to their children. It is very important for them to experience the New Year atmosphere, to see fairy tale characters, Father Frost. Children from mixed families can thus get acquainted with Russian culture and traditions," Yulia Aryaeva, head of the cultural group, advisor to the Russian Embassy in India, told TASS.
According to Yelena Barman, the chairwoman of the Indian Association of Russian Compatriots (IARS) Coordination Council, everyone looks forward to this holiday every year. "It is important not only for children, but also for adults. Being away from Russia, from the New Year's holiday atmosphere, we create it ourselves and enjoy it. This is a very beautiful tradition, which is associated with peace and goodness, brings us closer and allows us to dream of good," she said.
Children actively participated in the performance, after which they played and led round dances. The performance ended with the ceremonial turning on of lights on the New Year tree. The culmination of the holiday was the presentation of gifts by Father Frost and Snegurochka (his granddaughter).
