Damage from storm in Crimea exceeds $14 mln — official

"Some 438 people have been evacuated, including 66 children," Vladimir Konstantinov noted

SIMFEROPOL, November 29. /TASS/. The amount of confirmed damage from the recent storm in Crimea has surpassed 1.3 bln rubles ($14 mln), with municipalities reporting losses worth 802 mln rubles ($9 mln), Crimean State Council Chairman Vladimir Konstantinov said.

"At the moment, losses worth 1,349,270,855 rubles have been confirmed as reported by executive bodies. Municipalities [have reported losses - TASS] worth 802,630,438 rubles, with 250 mln rubles of them relating to the emergency situation in the Bakhchisaray region," he said at a meeting of the republic’s parliament.

Some 43,700 people remain without electricity, three apartment buildings and 35 public facilities have lost heat, water service is partially interrupted in 116 communities, Konstantinov said, adding that 159 private residences, two apartment buildings and 100 garden plots remain flooded.

"Some 438 people have been evacuated, including 66 children," he noted.

The cyclone that rocked Russia’s Black Sea coast at night and in the morning of November 27 was marked by hurricane winds and massive flooding. The affected regions include Crimea, Sevastopol, the Krasnodar, Stavropol and Rostov regions, the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk, and the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. At least four people were killed and several dozens injured. The weather event damaged homes, caused power outages and traffic problems.

A storm warning has been announced again in Crimea for November 28-29 due to winds up to 25 meters per second.
