FSB busts ‘Hizb ut-Tahrir’ terror group cell in Crimea, coordinated from Ukraine

MOSCOW, January 24. /TASS/. Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) busted a cell of the "Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami" terrorist organization in Crimea, which has been coordinated from Ukraine, the FSB press office told TASS Tuesday.

"The Federal Security Service, in cooperation with the Russian National Guard, thwarted the operation of a cell of the ‘Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami’ international terrorist organization in Crimea, with six members detained," the press office said.

According to the Federal Security Service, "these people were working deliberately to spread a terrorist ideology on our country’s territory," guided by emissaries of the organization staying in Ukraine. During their clandestine meetings, they were recruiting Russian nationals from among local Muslim population, the agency said.

The press office noted that a significant amount of "Hizb ut-Tahrir" propaganda materials, communication and data storage devices have been seized at the detainees’ residences. Criminal cases have been opened. The operation continues, the press office added.
