Russian diplomats working for release of Russians from US prisons — ambassador

A number of Russians remain in US prisons, and they are being denied medical assistance, Anatoly Antonov said

MOSCOW, June 8. /TASS/. Russian diplomats will keep working to make sure that no Russian citizens remain in US prisons, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov has said.

"Freeing Russians from US prison cells is a key task for our diplomats. We will keep working to make sure that not a single Russian citizen remains in US jails," he told the Bolshaya Igra (Big Game) show on Russia’s Channel One on Tuesday night.

In his words, a number of Russians remain in US prisons, and they are being denied medical assistance.

"It is important to speak publicly and demand the release of Viktor Bout and Roman Seleznev. Both of them suffer from serious chronic conditions, but all their pleas and requests to embassies for qualified medical assistance are being ignored. In my opinion, the US violation of its international commitments in this regard is obvious," he added.
