Taiwan reports approach of 23 Chinese planes, six vessels

16 of the aircraft crossed the median line and entered Taiwan’s northern, southwestern and eastern ADIZ

HONG KONG, December 30. /TASS/. Taiwan's armed forces have detected the approach of 23 planes and six Chinese ships to the island, Taiwan's Defense Ministry said on its X page.

"23 PLA (People's Liberation Army - TASS) aircraft and 6 PLAN (People's Liberation Army Navy - TASS) vessels operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a.m. (UTC+8) today. 16 of the aircraft crossed the median line and entered Taiwan’s northern, southwestern and eastern ADIZ (air defense identification zone - TASS). We have monitored the situation and responded accordingly," the statement reads.

Taiwan has been governed by its own administration since 1949, when the remnants of the Kuomintang forces led by Chiang Kai-shek (1887-1975) fled there after their defeat in the Chinese Civil War. Beijing considers Taiwan a province of the People’s Republic of China.
