Teenager suspected of plotting terrorist attacks on schools detained in Rostov Region

The local television channel reported that the teenager came from the city of Mariupol and he was a recruit of Azov and Donbass nationalist battalions

ROSTOV-ON-DON, May 24. /TASS/. A teenager, suspected of plotting terrorist attacks on schools, have been detained in Russia’s southern Rostov Region, a source in the law enforcement bodies told TASS on Tuesday adding that the detainee have been recruited by the Ukrainian Security Service.

"A teenager was detained in the Rostov Region and he was plotting terrorist attacks on schools in various regions. He was recruited by the Security Service of Ukraine," the source said.

Local television channel Vesti-Don, which had a chance of talking to the suspect, reported that the teenager came from the city of Mariupol and he was a recruit of Azov and Donbass nationalist battalions. He revealed information about plotted terrorist attacks on schools in Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan and in the Urals city of Perm.

According to the television broadcaster, the detained suspect earlier entered the territory of Russia in the status of a refugee.

Russia’s military operation in Donbass

On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced recognizing the sovereignty of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics. Russia recognized the Donbass republics in accordance with the DPR and LPR constitutions within the boundaries of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions as of the beginning of 2014.

Russian President Putin said in a televised address on February 24 that in response to a request by the heads of the Donbass republics he had made a decision to carry out a special military operation in Ukraine in order to protect people "who have been suffering from abuse and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years."

The Russian leader stressed that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukrainian territories, noting that the operation was aimed at the denazification and demilitarization of Ukraine.
