Russian watchdog demands Wikipedia delete false information about Ukraine operation

The company may face a fine of up to 4 mln rubles

MOSCOW, May 20. /TASS/. Russia’s mass media watchdog has demanded Wikipedia take down incorrect information about the special operation in Ukraine from its English-language edition, the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media said Friday.

The General Prosecutor’s Office had approached the Russian federal executive agency over two entries in Wikipedia’s English-language edition, "containing false information about the purposes and the form of the special military operation" in Ukraine, as well as about attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, the watchdog said.

The Russian watchdog demanded Wikipedia remove the information "within the timeframe allowed for by law," otherwise threatening it with fines of up to 4 million rubles.
