World-famous cosmologist Stephen Hawking and Russian businessman Yuri Milner announced the launch of $100 million space exploration project Breakthrough Starshot, sending a fleet of spacecraft to Alpha Centauri. Breakthrough Starshot is research and engineering program aiming to demonstrate proof of concept for light-propelled nanocrafts. These could fly at 20 percent of light speed and capture images of possible planets and other scientific data in our nearest star system, Alpha Centauri, just over 20 years after their launch. Space exploration is one of the main themes of science fiction movies. Some famous fictional spacecraft - in this gallery by TASS.
