Russia stresses importance of UN’s objectiveness, independence — mission

Russian First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dmitry Polyansky points out that the West’s influence is very high within the United Nations at all levels

MOSCOW, January 20. /TASS/. In its communication with United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres, Russia stresses that the organization needs to be objective and independent, Russian First Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dmitry Polyansky said on Friday.

According to Polyansky, the West’s influence is very high within the United Nations at all levels. "The organization is trying to be as objective as possible. We are actively working with the secretary general, who is Portuguese, but who must be independent and unbiased in his assessments. This is not always the case and we tell him this openly," he said in an interview with the Rossiya-24 television channel.

He stressed that the United Nations retains its importance. "Today, it is practically the only platform we can use to tell the truth about what is going on in Donbass, in Ukraine, about the reasons behind our decision to launch the special military operation without censorship," he said.
