UFA, May 13 (Itar-Tass) - Spastacus, a ballet by Aram Khachaturian, staged by outstanding choreographer Yuri Grigorovich, will have the premiere at Bashkortostan’s State Opera and Ballet Theater, Irina Lugovaya, the head of the theater’s literary part, told Itar-Tass on Monday.
This will be Grigorovich’s sixth production in Ufa. The choreographer started cooperating with the theater when the Grigorovich Ballet was on guest performances in Ufa twenty years ago, Lugovaya said. Last year he staged here the ballet Le Corsaire by Adolphe Adam.
Bashkortostan’s Opera and Ballet Theater has been working on the premiere since January. It is due on May 30 and 31.
Spartacus was first staged by Grigorovich at the Bolshoi Theater in 1968 and was later acclaimed in many countries. In 2009 Grigorovich produced the ballet in the composer’s native land, Armenia, at Yerevan Opera and Ballet House.
