The Kiev regime’s attempts to spread false information about a radioactive contamination of Ukrainian land allegedly triggered by Russia’s actions at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant are nothing but a profanation, Renat Karchaa, adviser to the chief executive of Russia’s Rosenergoatom nuclear power plant operator told TASS.
According to him, if something like that had really happened, the entire international community would have learned of it immediately.
"We were at the Chernobyl NPP for a certain period of time in order to ensure safety. And now with its false claims Ukraine simply wants to discredit us as a country in the sphere of complying with nuclear safety. This is the Kiev regime’s profanation. Any deliberate contamination is out of the question. Had it happened, there would have been wailing for the entire world to hear, and the IAEA would have confirmed it immediately," he said.
The official specified that all nuclear facilities have radiation control sensors that can be tracked online. "This is actually ridiculous to accuse us of something post factum. The Chernobyl [plant] just like any other [nuclear power] station has radiation control sensors along the entire perimeter, it is impossible to delude anyone with regards to the values of the radiation background because it is being monitored online," Karchaa specified.
Earlier, the Joint Coordination Headquarters for Humanitarian Response said that Kiev, backed by the US, was plotting a provocation ahead of the 11th special session of the UN General Assembly in order to accuse Russia of violating nuclear safety and security during the special military operation. Kiev was also planning to present some evidence that the alleged actions by Russian troops in February-April 2022 had triggered a radioactive contamination in the vicinity of the Chernobyl nuclear facility.
