Claims against Google and YouTube are fair, they abuse their power — Putin

"Roskomnadzor and the regulatory organizations are making appropriate claims against them," the Russian leader said

MOSCOW, December 19. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin believes that claims against Google and other Western platforms that do not comply with Russian laws and use their capabilities for political purposes are fair.

"YouTube and Google must comply with our laws, must avoid any kind of Internet fraud, primarily, they must not use and abuse the network to achieve the goals of their governments," he said at the combined Direct Line Q&A session and year-end press conference.

"Roskomnadzor and the regulatory organizations are making appropriate claims against them. They are doing the right thing," Putin added.

He also noted that YouTube's slowdown in Russia is mostly due to issues on the side of the video sharing service rather than the country’s authorities. "About YouTube's slowdown, there are, perhaps, more issues there on YouTube's side than our side," he said.

According to the president, after the West began imposing numerous sanctions against Russia, Google, the owner of YouTube, practically stopped financing its subsidiaries in Russia and reduced the supply of equipment necessary for the platform to work well. "That’s how it created certain problems for itself," he said.
