Russia condemns Israel’s international law violations in Gaza Strip — UN deputy envoy

Maria Zaobolotskaya noted that the majority of the 30,000 people that died in the enclave since the beginning of the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict are women and children

UNITED NATIONS, March 12. /TASS/. Russia decisively condemns the violations of international law, carried out by Israeli authorities against civilian population in the Gaza Strip, Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Maria Zabolotskaya said.

"After the October 7 violence, which we categorically condemn, the spiral of crimes entered a truly catastrophic scale. We decisively condemn the gross and systematic violations of humanitarian law and international human rights law, committed Israel against the civilian population in the Gaza Strip," she said, speaking at the UN Security Council meeting.

Zaobolotskaya noted that the majority of the 30,000 people that died in the enclave since the beginning of the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict are women and children. She underscored that, in order to stop the violence, an immediate ceasefire regime in the Gaza Strip would be necessary.

"In order to overcome the impunity, to put an end to the violence, including sexual one, it is necessary to do everything to stop this conflict. Right now, an immediate and unconditional ceasefire is necessary, first and foremost. We hope that the UN Security Council will finally be able to demand that from the sides in the nearest future," the Russian diplomat concluded.
