MOSCOW, February 29. /TASS/. The situation in the Avdeyevka and Zaporozhye directions remains tense for the Ukrainian army and some military commanders have revealed miscalculations in their operational assessments, Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief Alexander Syrsky said on Thursday.
"The situation in the area of the operation by the Ukrainian defense forces remains tense," Syrsky wrote on the Ukrainian General Staff’s page on Facebook (banned in Russia, owned by Meta Corporation recognized as extremist in Russia).
As the Ukrainian army chief admitted, "a particularly tense situation has developed in the Avdeyevka and Zaporozhye directions."
"During the operation, some commanders revealed certain miscalculations of their command of the situation and the enemy assessment, which directly affected the firmness of the defense in some directions. I have taken steps to remedy the situation on the spot, with the allocation of extra ammunition and materiel and the deployment of required reserves," Syrsky said.
Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu reported to President Vladimir Putin on February 17 that Russian troops had taken full control of the city of Avdeyevka near Donetsk. The Ukrainian army withdrew from Avdeyevka in a chaotic retreat, Russia’s Defense Ministry stressed. Several days later, the Defense Ministry reported that Russian troops had liberated communities west of Avdeyevka, in particular, Lastochkino and Petrovskoye.
